PeaceJam Youth Nonviolence Summit

The Summit will feature celebrities, motivational speakers, workshops, and includes a concert, lunch and student raffle.

FREE for Solano County Youth, ages 10-19

Location: Armijo High School

Summit begins immediately after the Matt Garcia Memorial Unity March.

ALL Summit participants must register. 

Students under age 14 must be registered by a parent or guardian.   Permission forms are required from all participants under age 18.  The forms will be e-mailed to all registrants and must be returned on the day of the event.

Youth can also participate in a countywide fundraiser for the Matt Garcia Foundation, local schools and event costs.  You do not need to attend the March to donate.  March-a-thon money will be donated as follows:

• 50% to the Matt Garcia Foundation
• 35% to the school of your choice
• 15% to PeaceJam Solano/Youth Peace Initiative

March-a-thon participation is not required to attend the Youth Summit.

We need MENTORS!  Mentors (age 18-25) will help with Break-out Groups and Workshop Activities.  Experience with PeaceJam Programs and especially PeaceJam Conferences is helpful but not required.

All mentors will attend a mandatory training session January 9th from 1-5 pm.

“Becoming a Love and Logic Parent” workshop
This nationally acclaimed parenting program helps parents deal with the every day stress of parenting without lectures, threats and anger. In this workshop, parents will discover how to take care of themselves and keep the fun in parenting!  Parents will learn easy and effective ways to stop battles over homework and chores, set limits with thinking words, and use empathy instead of anger.  Your kids will learn that you can mean business without being mean.  “Love and Logic” offers parents a common sense approach to parenting that is both simple and effective.  It gives parents tools to help them raise children who make good choices and grow up to become responsible adults, while reducing stress and conflict in the home.

Curt Weikel of New Horizons Parenting brings almost 35 years experience in both private practice and public education.  He has personally used the Love and Logic program both in the classroom with thousands of children and at home for over a dozen years and has seen the positive results first hand.
